We've seen enough people bend or break brand new gear, the guide below is a technique we use after hearing what people did wrong while changing their caps and countless changes on our own gear. Please, please, please take your time and caution when removing knobs.
So things to take note of....
- Only pull straight up, don't twist or wiggle the knob while pulling. (We find it easiest to put the controller on the ground or a lower surface for a better vantage point to pull directly up.)
- You don't want to damage your existing knobs. The best way to do this is with a small piece of cardboard about a 1 inch square (I use the top of a cereal box as it flexible enough to bend around the knob. (A thick towel can work as well)
- If you can't grip it with your hands don't be afraid to use a pair of Grips, pliers, etc. Here's where the cardboard/towel you got in #2 will come in handy.
- Put a thick card (Business cards work best!) between your gear and the cap when installing. This makes sure you don't push the caps down too hard, which might cause the cap to rub against the face of your gear. (If you notice the cap rubbing pull the cap back up a small amount!)
Note: this is especially important on Pioneer DJ gear!
